    Hatching Away

We definitely saw this coming. that the worlds best 2 rally cars will be hatchbacks eventually. but it came sooner than we expected with the 08 subaru impreza, and for that it beats its counterpart, the lancer evo X in many ways. but not to worry, The next lancer is going to be a hatchback too. or rather as sportsback as they call it. it simply makes sence, why should a performance car be a sedan, when the benifits of being a hatchback are so many. it weighs less, meaning heigher pickup and manouverability. being the hatchback freak. This is music to my ears.

    Car Bomb

    • poorly planned out 1 way roads
    • car prices with a 200% tax. for every car we buy, the government gets twice of what we paid.
    • Ever increasing fuel prices. since 2 years ago fuel prices have trippled.
    • No parking, other than public car parks(not safe) or commercial car parks(charged by the hour)
    • Waiting for at least 20 mins coz the road is closed coz some political bloke needs to go somewhere.
    • under-paid cops that are waitin for you to as much as sneeze on the road so they can fine you
This is what you have to go through if you own a vehicle in sri lanka. you are robbed by the goverment at every oppertunity. from buying the car, to driving it, to parking it. Still the middle and upper class manage to get along.

today they really dropped the bomb. They banned all imports. making the car market a closed market. No more new cars, (except for maybe SLs only local car manufacturer MICRO which is pretty lousy ) and except for the goverment officials who will be getting 8 new mercs worth approx 28 million each after they have been used for the delegates of some saarc conference to be held here. and this was actually one of the reasons they gave for banning imports. Thats like they want to have the poshest cars while they dont want anyone to have cars even close to their...even if they are rich. Of course this rules can be bribed out too. Mother lanka is taking a sad route downhill thanks to these morons.

So how is this going to effect the local vehicle market? since its a closed market all the car prices (2nd hand too) will go sky high.  Pretty much the same cars will be curculated across multiple owners. On a good note this might provide an oppertunity for local companys to make cars locally. But no one wants to buy vehicles anymore with all the issues mentioned at the begining. Maybe someone will make electrical cars. who knows!!!!!
